Jiayi Guo is an upcoming Hong Kong–born pianist, composer, arranger, and bandleader currently completing her studies in Jazz Performance and Composition at Berklee College of Music. With a foundation in classical training and fluency in jazz, she teaches and performs across a wide range of styles including jazz, blues, classical, Latin, and pop/rock.
Guo’s artistry is rooted within a strong traditional Chinese folk and global influence, bridging these elements in the context of jazz and the avant-garde. In 2025, she was honored with the Dave Brubeck Composer and Pianist Award by the Brubeck Living Legacy Foundation and the Jazz Education Network. Her classical background led her to earning consecutive awards at the 2010 Hong Kong International 200th Anniversary of Chopin Youth Piano Competition, and later performing as a soloist at Carnegie Hall in the 2016 American Arts Festival. As a performer and bandleader, she regularly presents original works throughout the Boston/Cambridge area at venues such as The Mad Monkfish, Harvard CamLab, Wally’s Jazz Club, PostUnderground in Brookline, Berklee Performance Center, and the Boston Common Asian American Music Festival.
Her recent arranging work includes commissions for the Orquestra Chinesa de Macau, International Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and the National Chinese Orchestra Taiwan. Through both performance and education, she continues to explore and expand the boundaries of jazz, avant-garde, and traditional Chinese folk music.
Jiayi writes: “I strive for all my students to enjoy the music that they play, and feel accomplished at the end of the day. I grew up in a musical family, and didn’t have much of a choice in what kind of music fulfilled me. Pushed into classical piano early on, it took years and years of searching for me to find a direction of my own, and that’s a burden I want to eliminate for my students. Whether it’s learning classical pieces, your favorite Joni Mitchell song, or jazz standards, I aim to create a road map and environment that encourages you to spend your time and learn music that brings you joy.
I have multiple years of teaching experience in Boston. I’ve taught complete beginners of all ages, to students with some musical background who are eager to return and refresh their skills. If you want to deepen your music theory knowledge, alleviate the frustration of reading, or just take your first step in your musical journey, I will work with your pace and meet you where you are, and ultimately guide you to where you want to be!”

I’m thrilled I chose Page Music. My overall experience has been educational, relaxing and exciting. I look forward to continuing my lessons as I chase my goal of becoming a proficient, recreational musician. Thank you Page Music!!
