Aaron Dutton is an in-demand multi-instrumentalist and composer currently living in Boston, Massachusetts. With a personal sound that melds elements of the jazz tradition with modern improvisation and popular music, Aaron has had the opportunity to play with a wide array of world-class musicians in his young career. He leads his own group, the Aaron Dutton Group, a sextet which recently recorded its debut EP of Dutton’s original music. Recently he joined Guggenheim Fellow Felipe Salles’ Interconnections Ensemble, with which he’s performed at NYC venues like The Jazz Gallery, National Sawdust, and Birdland. Aaron has been a versatile sideman, playing in creative and critically acclaimed ensembles such as the Anna Jalkeus Group and Garrett Wingfield’s The Octopod. Dutton received his undergraduate degree from the University of North Texas, where he was a member of the Grammy-nominated One O’ Clock Lab Band in 2016, and is currently working towards a Master’s degree at the New England Conservatory of Music. Aaron has toured around the world, including recent tours in China and Australia.

As a teacher, Dutton has five years of professional experience teaching a wide range of instruments and ability levels, including piano, keyboards, saxophone, flute and clarinet. He was hired by multiple school districts in Texas as a staff lesson teacher and has given masterclasses in California and Texas. As an improvisor and composer, Dutton stresses solid fundamentals and plenty of music theory and ear training to make sure the student is as versatile as possible in order to achieve the sound they are striving for, regardless of style or genre. Aaron views lessons as a constant dialogue between student and teacher, an open space where ideas flow freely in order to bring out the unique musical voice in every student.
