As our Staff Manager, Matt strives to use his 10+ years of experience at Page Music Lessons to provide training and support to the rest of our teaching staff. He believes that by focusing on ways to assist other instructors in transferring their knowledge to students he can make a much bigger impact.

Matt’s patience and versatility make him an ideal instructor for those looking for guidance in the first steps toward becoming part of the musical community or to improve their existing skills. In addition to teaching and his duties as Lead Instructor, Matt also leads Song Night. This ongoing event provides an excellent opportunity for students to meet and gain experience playing simple songs together in a low pressure environment.  As they progress, students can continue with Song Nights or consider moving up to Jam Night with Matt’s guidance.

As a first generation college student, Matt first studied classical music and guitar at the University of Virginia’s College at Wise in southwest Virginia. He later transferred and became a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Berklee College of Music where he received a Bachelor of Music degree in songwriting. While at Berklee, he formed Boston-based rock band Chirality, who’s debut EP was chosen to be performed at Berklee College of Music’s Metal Guitar Night showcasing Berklee’s top rock/metal guitarists. Chirality has also performed throughout the New England area and appeared on local TV/radio stations.

Hailing from a rural Appalachian town and making his way to Boston has afforded him exposure to everything from bluegrass and blues to metal. In addition to teaching, Matt has extensive music retail and live concert venue experience. He seeks to take this experience and use it to help his students achieve their goals – whether it be learning to express themselves through crafting their own compositions, picking up a new hobby, or making their way to the stage.

“Matt started me out from the beginning by helping to select a suitable guitar for purchase, followed by very helpful guidance on assuming the right postures to minimize back and arm fatigue. On top of that within one lesson I was plucking out some delightful tunes that will help keep my interest level up while I sort through all the new challenges. I would highly recommend Matt for the beginner, and I strongly suspect the experienced player will also benefit from this experienced and capable guitarist.” – Walter
