Guitar, Bass

“Juan made me a better guitar player through analyzing the music I love. He taught me how to think in an organized way about my phrasing without losing the feeling when it comes to improvising using the right tools.” – John Amaral – Student

About Juan

Although proficient in vocals, bass and basic drums, instructor Juan Rocha’s main instrument is the electric guitar. He’s favorite guitar players are Richie Kotzen, Greg Howe, Joe Bonamassa, Adrian Smith, John Petrucci, John Mayer, David Gilmore, Michael Romeo, amongst others. His style of playing is based on experience and his teaching style is based on learning through the music you love. There is no greater tool other than the wonderful template given in the music you vibrate with and have been listening to for years. Juan helps students of all ability levels, on acoustic, electric and bass guitars.

Juan’s musical career started when he studied music theory at the Conservatory of Performing Arts in Cali, Colombia. His early approach to music was through drums but the second he held a guitar, he knew it was going to be a relationship that would last forever. Juan has more than 20 years of performing and playing the guitar, lead vocals, songwriting, and more recently producing. He’s been involved in various music projects such as Red O’clock, an indie rock band that served as the opening act for bands such as Foster The People, Garbage, The Drums, LCD Soundsystem, and a more heavy-sounding band called The South, which opened for Megadeth back in Juan’s home country of Colombia.
