Stephanie Borgani is a masters student at the New England Conservatory studying Jazz Voice. Hailing from Sáo Paulo, Brazil, she studied jazz piano at the Souza Lima Conservatory and later moved to New York City to study at Columbia University, where she earned a double degree in both Russian Language and Jazz Studies (piano, voice). Stephanie’s passions include Brazilian music, the American Jazz tradition, and the human voice, and she is an active member of the improvised music scene in Boston as well as her hometown of Sáo Paulo. She has studied privately with Helen Sung, Bruce Barth, Christine Correa, Ole Mathisen, Guilherme Ribeiro, and Dominique Eade.

Stephanie grew up surrounded by music educators and has long been interested in teaching. For the past 5-6 years she has accumulated experience tutoring Russian and English privately. She has also taught music in various capacities: while working at New York-based organizations such as the Musical Mentors Collaborative and NY Jazz Academy, Stephanie has had both piano and voice students from various levels and age groups, as well as leading small ensembles and group classes. Her approach aims to help students grow holistically by giving them a well-balanced set of tools they can express themselves with. These include a good technical foundation, a basic understanding of music notation, an ability to understand what they hear, and a repertoire of pieces they enjoy playing. She also encourages students to keep an open mind, to explore the music that excites them and to be creative! Beyond everything else, Stephanie believes good teaching is about empathy, and works hard to tailor lessons to each student’s individual needs and goals.

“Since taking lessons with Stephanie, I’m 300% better! I’m so much more comfortable with the material, and she helped me kill it in my final performance!” – Martin T. (student)
