Thomas (Tom) Davis grew up in the Great Smoky Mountains of North Carolina. A self-taught pianist and improviser, Thomas began to study composition and jazz piano at UNC Chapel Hill. He later studied injury preventative piano technique (Lister-Sink method) under Tommy Otten. Thomas decided to continue his education in 2017 at the New England Conservatory of Music in the Contemporary Improvisation Department.
Thomas is an award-winning composer, a published choral composer with NoteNova (Manhattan), a church organist, a professional music transcriber, a singer-songwriter, and an improvising pianist. He wears many hats and believes in pursuing what interests you most.
As such, lessons with Thomas vary greatly from student to student. Focuses include: ear-based improvisation/composition, reading, singing what you hear, ear-training, transcription, and rhythmic exercises. Thomas teaches many styles of music while focusing on helping the student to find their own musical voice.
