Yusaku Yoshimura enjoys teaching all levels of students, working with any genre of music. He helps students with voicing techniques, comping techniques, improvisational techniques in all styles, left-hand bass line techniques, rhythm training, reading training, and ear training. He likes to let students pick their favorite tunes, and will make arrangements based on the level of each student. Yusaku has considerable experience teaching piano, keyboard, and bass students.
Yusaku started taking piano lesson at age of 10 and started playing electric bass at 16. He entered Berklee College of Music in 2000 and studied jazz piano with Laszlo Gardony, Bruce Thomas, Joanne Brackeen. He has been performing nationally and internationally as a jazz/funk/R&B/gospel/reggae/pop/latin keyboard player for 16 years. He’s performed and toured with legendary Jamaican reggae artists such as Earl Chinna Smith, Bob Andy, Ken Boothe, the Congos, the Viceroys, Kiddus I and Everton Blender, Van Gordon Martin Band, Toussaint The Liberator(former lead singer for Soulive), Sarah Brindell, and more. He’s shared stages with Patti LaBelle, Ledisi, Lalah Hathaway, Phil Perry, Harold Melvin’s Blue Notes,The O’jay’s, The Stylistics, The Skatalites, The Wailers, Tom Tom Club, Stephen Marley, Ky-mani Marley, Anthony B, Junior Toots, Darryl Jones, etc. He currently performs regularly in and out of Boston as a member of Toussaint The Liberator and The Naya Rockers(reggae/soul/funk), Zeke Martin and The Oracle(funk/jazz/fusion), Ghetto People Band(roots reggae), and Hi-Fi-Monk(funk/soul/hip hop).
