Ben Zecker works professionally as a pianist/keyboardist, instructor, arranger, musical director and film scorer. Ben enjoys helping his students learn and grow past their musical obstacles. Ben uses only methods he has developed, or revised and personalized variations of basic principals learned by his masters. Ben is currently writing a book about developing inner time and learning to play using rhythm as a coordinating and guiding force. Ben is an excellent match for students seeking an instructor of popular styles, including Jazz, R&B, Rock, Fusion, GB, Gospel, and Funk.
Starting out in his local theatre and in clubs at the age of 16, Ben played many shows and music reviews and received acclaim in local papers for his playing and arranging, particularly that of Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue." Ben was already showing the beginnings of a tremendous musical maturity and command over his instrument and the musical language.
At the age of 19 Ben moved to New York City to study jazz performance and composition at the New School University in Greewich Village. Ben developed a love for the urban landscape and for the intense, improvised music which he was exposed to during his experience there.
For the last 8 years Ben has become a valuable player in the Boston scene, toured Japan, Canada, and the US, while working hard at perfecting his craft. Ben has worked with many local artists and musicians, including local national Pop/Rock talents like John Blackwell's "Matrix" (Prince, P. Diddy, Justin Timberlake) Jordan Knight (NKOTB) and Gary Cherone (Extreme, Van Halen). Constantly playing such a variety of gigs and musical styles, Ben has learned an extensive repertoire and an extremely varied palate of keyboard techniques, always staying true to the finer points of mechanics learned by his great piano teachers. Ben has developed a fan base in Japan for compositions and arrangements written for the band Boston Horns (P-Vine), particularly the tune "Pink Polyester" which has been featured on many Japanese compilations and has been downloaded thousands of times and played on may radio stations since it's release in 2006.
Besides being a very busy gigging musician, Ben is constantly working in his studio and on location producing, engineering, arranging and playing for artists or composing and programming for local independent films, Soundtrack libraries (NY/Boston) and also pitching for major corporate advertising agencies, TV shows and Hollywood Films on the writing/production team "Firstseed Productions" based in Los Angeles. Ben recently started his own production company called RPG Studios which provides custom music, composition, and arrangements for media and for outside artists.
